Prayer for Alaska

3/30/2010

I found myself praying for the ministry in Alaska this past week during my times of intercession.  I sure miss it up there.  Only 5 more weeks.

I had some good times of prayer this past week, both by myself and with others.  I had the normal church/Bible study/prayer breakfast deal.  I also try hard to remember to pray for my family every day, especially with the littlest London on the way. :-) Not much else to report...it has been good though.

On another note, some have asked what the Comity Plan was that posted about last time.  To answer some of those questions, I submit a group paper that I worked on with a few other Alaskans.  It is a draft for a cross-cultural ministry manual.  I reworked the history section from the history that I wrote in my monster paper from last semester.  I'm much happier with how this paper turned out.  Hope you enjoy it!

Alaska Comity Map

I got tired of searching the internet for a good map of the "Comity Plan" in Alaska which divided Alaska into denominational regions.  So I made one.  I'm not 100% sure on the exact boundaries, but I think that this is very close to how it worked out.  I hope others can find this useful...or at least interesting!  Enjoy.

Can't sleep? Time to pray.

So far I've had a good week...much more relaxed than last. :-D

We had a good Lenten service at church yesterday and a relatively lengthy intercessory prayer time.  I like that our pastor seems to have a heart for prayer.

I also had a good half hour or so of prayer time last night when I woke up around midnight.  Shirleen was having a crazy dream and woke me up saying, "What did you do with the ring?!"  After a few minutes of convincing her that she was dreaming and I did not do anything with the ring, she went back to sleep and I stayed awake.  I couldn't go back to sleep, so I prayed for a while.  I think that's a good practice.  Sometimes we even hear stories about how God specifically wakes people up to pray for a specific person only to find out that that specific person was going through a crisis at the time.  God can even use sleeplessness and prayer.

Spring Break is over...and so are most of my mid-terms

We had a fun spring break and I got quite a bit of work done.  Last week was killer with mid-terms and assignments.  Once again, being busy trumped good quality time in prayer.  I did have a good 1 hour prayer time at prayer breakfast though on Saturday.  Corporate prayer times have been good in class and in church...just not a lot of individual prayer time in the last week.  I have my final mid-term this week...hopefully after that I can spend some more focused time in intercessory prayer.

Prayer in a tube

3/10/2010

Just a quick entry today...I'm on Spring Break, after all. :-)

Yesterday I had an MRI on my right knee, which I banged up two summers ago.  While I was in the tube I guess I moved too much, so they had to do the testing twice, so I was in there for 50 minutes!  However, I had some good intercessory prayer time..  I suppose if you are a praying person you should never be bored, because there is always someone you can pray for.

1 Kings 17 Rap

3/2/2010

So I had to make a poem for sermon preparation from the text I chose; 1 Kings 17.

I didn't feel like making a poem, so I made a rap.  I wish I could rap it for you, but you'll just have to imagine me rapping as you read.

Peace out.

1 Kings 17

There once was bad man, his name was King Ahab

He spread wickedness across over all the land

God stepped in and sent His own prophet

“No more rain”, said Elijah, “God’s gonna stop it”

The rain stopped and Elijah fled

Ahab didn’t like it, ‘cause he wanted him dead

Elijah hid out in a deep ravine

But the brook gave water and the ravens gave feed

‘Til the brook dried all up with no water in his cup

Elijah heard God say to get up...on his way

To find a woman widow and to approach her, then say,

“Please give me a drink and some bread to eat”

But the woman responded, “I have almost no wheat”

“I have little oil, and with what that I have,

I plan on making a fire and dying with my lad.”

“Fear not!” said Elijah, “Go and do what you say,

But before you do, make for me first a bread cake”

The woman obeyed and death’s hand was stayed

God made it so the wheat and the oil was great

God multiplied the little she had

Elijah, the woman, and even the lad

Ate plenty and to God they were glad

But wait, what is this, the lad gets sick?

Breathing his last, against the woman’s wish

Crying out to Elijah, “What have you done?!”

“Have you brought judgment on me and my son?!”

Compassion did fill him, Elijah did pray

Taking the son, he carried him away

Crying out to God, “Bring life back to Him!”

The boy did sit up and began to breathe in.

The woman reacted with amazement and awe,

“A man of God is Elijah, I believe his words all!”

God’s grace is abundant, not just for these three

God wants to supply for both you and me.
