What students and others have to say about AEC

“I have learned a lot about carpentry, life, and how to help myself to stay off of drugs. This has let me see the world and the people in it with a new set of eyes. Thank you Lord for this school and the staff here at AEC.”

- Zane Paniptchuk, Unalakleet, AK, Class of ‘06

“God’s hand is in this thing. AEC is about to take off like a rocket.”

- Rev. Ron Mancini, 1st Covenant Church, Anchorage, AK

“While there are other vocational options in Alaska, AEC fills a critical niche by providing a targeted program tailored to the unique culture of students from Rural Alaska. Because of this, AEC is an important part of the Covenant Youth of Alaska strategic ministry plan.”

- Byron Bruckner, Director, Covenant Youth of Alaska

“I consider it a great privilege to be a part of the work God is doing in the lives of these students. The construction of these homes represents an infusion of hope into their lives.”

- Mark Hill, Executive Director, AEC

Amundsen Educational Center History

The Amundsen Educational Center is a Christian vocational school that primarily serves Alaska Native students. AEC was envisioned and founded by Rev. Roald Amundsen of Soldotna and other long-term Alaskan missionaries and pastors (who named the school in Rev. Amundsen’s honor). Rev. Amundsen dreamed for many years while ministering in Alaska of developing a school where young people can develop skills that would enable them to financially provide for themselves and their families in Rural Alaska. Rural Alaska is defined as the vast regions of the state that are not connected to the North American road system and primarily populated by Alaska Natives. Rev. Amundsen’s vision, however, was to provide this vocational training in a positive Christian environment where the students could also learn more about the saving, life changing grace of Christ.

With the help of fellow missionaries, Rev. Don Bruckner, Rev. Maynard Londborg, and physician Dr. Robert Fortuine, AEC began its first classes in September 2001. AEC is authorized by the Alaska Commission on Post-Secondary Education to offer a 1 year Certificate in Residential Construction and a 2 year Advanced Certificate in Residential Construction. The Amundsen Educational Center is a partner ministry of Covenant Youth of Alaska, the youth ministry division of the Evangelical Covenant Church of Alaska.
