Summer Fun.

Summer in Alaska is fantastic!  There are so many summer activities to choose from!  With the very long summer days...it almost seems possible to do them all too.

When I'm not in the office, I've been riding my bicycle a lot lately...it feels good to do some exercise and to get outside!  I plan on getting out a lot more now that I can.  Shirleen and I went hiking yesterday for the second time this summer...we also went clam digging on Saturday.  I've been scoping out the fishing holes, and plan on trying to catch some salmon real soon.

We've been trying to empty out our freezer in anticipation of a good summer of fishing, clamming, and berry picking.  Last year we put away about 50 salmon and a few gallons of berries.  I'd love to go hunting and fill the freezer with some moose meat, but I'm not sure if that will happen.

Land of the midnight sun

Soo...when I go to bed at night, the sun is up...and when I wake up in the morning...the sun is up.  Officially the sun will rise tomorrow at 5:03am and set at 11:02pm...that makes for 17 hours and 59 minutes where the sun is in the sky.  But just because the sun isn't in the sky doesn't mean it's dark.  Dawn and Dusk blend together so that I haven't seen pitch black in a while.  It's no wonder that most Natives in the village have backward hours: staying up until 4-5am and getting up around 1pm (or later).  It's always a struggle...no matter how many summers you've had in Alaska.  I'm working hard to keep my hours straight...but we'll see how long that lasts. :-)

Graduations

Well well, both AEC and ACC are officially over for the school year.  The last two weekends have been filled with commencement activities and I'm pretty wiped out!  I had a large part of putting together the AEC ceremonies, which is why I've been absent from my blog lately.  I'm looking forward to a more relaxed schedule this summer...and catching some fish, I hope!!  On that note: I'm going on a hike later today...first of the season...should be fun.
